Writing

In writing your child worked on writing sentences using sequencing words such as first, next, last, etc.  Your child also worked on including proper nouns within his/her writing.  Your child also responds daily to a journal question.


Guided Reading

All this week during whole group reading instruction and small group reading instruction our class worked on identifying the main idea and supporting details to go along with the main idea.  Next week we will continue to work on the skill of main idea and details.

Book Its

The Pizza Hut Book Its that your child may receive throughout the year can be used at any Pizza Hut for a personal pan pizza or it can also be used at the Monticello Movie Theater for a free admission to a movie.

Things Needed

  • If you have any grocery ads/magazines around your house that you no longer need or want could you please send them to school with your child.  We will use the ads/magazines for an upcoming health project focusing around the food plate.
  • I am also asking in the next couple of weeks for students to bring in any toy catalogues/magazines that you may have lying around the house for an upcoming art project. Thanks in advance!

Phonics

In phonics your child worked with words that had the long o sound within them as in boat, show, and toe.  We spent a lot of time focusing on the letter patterns oa, oe, and ow within words.


Smart Board

We do a lot of neat things with the smart board that is in our classroom.  Ask your child to share with you some of the things we have done and do with our smart board.

National Hot Lunch Day

Next Tuesday is National Hot Lunch Day.  Second graders will eat at 11:15.  Just a reminder that visitors are not allowed to go out to the playground with students.

Writing

In writing our class worked on adding details(adjectives) to our writing.  Your child also worked on beginning every sentence with a capital letter and ending every sentence with a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.  We also started learning more about nonfiction books.
