Jump for Heart

February is American Heart Month.  It is also the time of year when Maple Lake Elementary students focus on jumping rope to stay healthy.  Needless to say, Jump for Heart is kicking off this week and students at MLE will begin learning and discussing the heart, heart disease, and how we can lead a healthy lifestyle.  Jump for Heart is a community service learning program offered by the American Heart Association  that teaches kids the importance of developing heart-healthy habits, being physically active can be fun, and raising funds to support cardiovascular research and education can help save lives all across the world.

The following link, Kids we've helped , is an example of the how the money collected through the Jump for Heart program can help save lives.  Please look in your son or daughter's Wednesday Envelope on February 11th to find more information about the Jump for Heart program.  Any and all donations collected for the Jump for Heart program should be returned to school by February 25th.

Contact Mr. Ronnenberg with any questions or concerns.

Guided Reading

Your child is becoming a very fluent reader.  Please continue to spend time reading with your child his/her guided reading book that is sent home with your child every night.  If you are unsure of what your child needs to read each night, please refer to the yellow guided reading log sheet that is in your child's book bag.  Your child has made some big gains in guided reading and we want him/her to continue to advance and take their reading to an even higher level.

Writing

In writing your child continues to work through the writing process to write an informational report.

Just Right Books

I always remind students to do the five finger test when determining if a book is just right for him/her.  If your child opens a book and he/she is not able to read five or more words on any page, then that particular book is too difficult for your child at the present time.

Reminder

Just a reminder that if your child is keeping a larger quantity of snack(s) in his/her locker, to please have your child keep all of his/her snacks inside of a sealed plastic container to prevent any unwanted critters within their snack(s)!

Social Studies

This week your child is working on collecting information for a  presidential power point presentation that your child will present in front of the class on Monday, February 16th at 2:25 in our classroom.  Hope some of you can join us to watch the presentations.
