Guided Reading
This week your child is continuing to practice STAMINA as they learn about one of the Daily Fives called Word Work. Guided Reading bookbags will start to come home within the next few weeks once all of the Daily Fives have been introduced and practiced. Keep reading books at home!
Writing
In writing your child has been learning about each step of the writing process. We currently are learning about Prewriting and the Rough Draft part of the writing cycle. The students are doing a great job at continuing to bring items from home to glue in their Life Books to write about. Keep encouraging your child to continue to bring items from home to write about all year long. I tell my students that the only way to get better at writing is to keep WRITING!
Phonics
In phonics this week your child worked with words that had a long vowel-consonant-silent e pattern within them as in cake, tape, made, etc.

Math
The past two weeks in math your child has been working on being able to read, write, and build whole numbers up to 1000. Your child has also spent time comparing numbers, putting numbers in order from least to greatest, and your child worked on determining what numbers come before, after, and between a given number.

Bus Safety
Time was spent this week talking about bus safety and the importance of being safe and respectful when near or on a bus.

second and third weeks of school have and will be spent out on the
pitch, (soccer lingo for "field"). Dribbling, passing, trapping,
goaltending, and teamwork are all a part of our plans. "Solf" is one of
the passing activities... It is a combination of soccer and golf.

NWEA Testing
Next Monday & Tuesday morning your child will be taking the NWEA tests in reading and math. Please make sure your child gets a good nights rest the night before and a good breakfast in him/her on the morning of each test. Both the math and reading NWEA tests will be taken in the computer lab on a computer.

Important Things to Know
- Please send a pair of socks along to school with your child for him/her to keep in their locker for phy ed. and an extra set of clothes due to water on the playground, etc.
- Our class will go to the library every Friday to check out new books!
