Upcoming Field Trip Reminder

Just a reminder that parents are required to attend a volunteer orientation before helping with field trips.  This only applies if it's been 3 or more years since you've attended an orientation or renewed it.  Any questions about this please contact Celeste Dahlstrom in the high school.  Field trip permission slips will be sent home in next weeks Wed. envelope.

Writing

I am so proud of the writers within our classroom!  Students just finished up their persuasive letters and we started to talk about procedures and how we do things on a daily basis and often in order.  The conversations we are having together will lead students in the direction of writing their own procedural letters.

Fidget Spinners & Toys Brought to School

As many of you have probably heard, fidget spinners are the new trend in schools.  As cool as these spinners can be, they can also become a huge distraction throughout the day.  I am asking that all fidget spinners be kept at home along with toys.  It just becomes a problem throughout the day trying to find missing toys along with fidget spinners.  Thanks for your understanding with this matter!

Summer Academy

Summer Academy is just around the corner (Well kind of...). If your child receives an invitation to attend Summer Academy, please consider sending them.  This is a great way to help your child retain what he/she has learned throughout the year.  If you have any questions, please give me a call. Invitations will be sent out May 5th or so.

Cafe Strategy

When students are able to recognize common elements of a story such as plot, characters, setting, problem, solution, and theme, they are better able to infer what will happen next.  When reading, literary elements work together to form a story and to make the story interesting.  When the above literary elements are used together, a student is better able to understand the story being read.
