Students performed their John Henry reader's theater to 3rd graders on Monday. Ask your child to explain to you why John Henry is a tall tale. The students really enjoyed and had fun with this play!
All this week in phonics your child worked with irregular plurals. Students learned that sometimes the spelling of a singular noun needs to be changed in order to make the word plural as in man and men. Other words require no change in spelling when going from singular to plural as in deer.
Next weeks spelling focus is working with words that are singular and plural by changing the spelling of some plural words such as:

In phonics this week your child worked with contractions. Your child also sorted high-frequency words and your child looked for contractions found within various reading passages.
We are still collecting any SUMMER FUN items for the 2nd grade basket that will be raffled off at PIE Bingo Fun Night next Thursday.

This week in math students finished up the unit on double-digit addition strategies and next week students will begin learning different strategies to subtract 2-digit numbers.
I Love to Read month is off to a great start and students are working hard on completing each color on their Monopoly game board. If our school turns in a total of 150 or more Monopoly game boards we will go tubing at Powder Ridge on Friday, March 4th. Read away!
