Final Goodbye

Thank you for a spectacular year! I will miss your child so much. Your child has made a huge impact on me and your child is so special and unique in his/her own way. I hope everyone has an awesome summer with a ton of fun!

The Last Week of School

Next week we have a very busy week with lots of fun things planned to finish off the school year. 

Monday, May 30th- No School

Tuesday, May 31st- Your child is encouraged to bring a beach towel to school. Many activities planned for Tuesday will take place outside enjoying the sun!

Wednesday, June 1st- Please have your child bring their favorite book(s) to enjoy reading outside.

Thursday, June 2nd- Field Trip to Hemker Zoo. Please make sure your child brings a lunch that can be thrown away when finished. Please also put sunscreen on your child the day of the field trip and dress for the weather. It should be an amazing day at the zoo!

Friday, June 3rd- The last day of Second Grade! Please have your child bring a board game for the morning. In the afternoon your child will be walking to the City Park. Please put sunscreen on your child and send an extra water bottle to school with them.

Writing

In writing this week your child continued to work on his/her Persuasive Letter. Your child focused this week on writing an introduction to their letter which is called the hook. Often the hook starts out as a question to get the readers attention. Your child also spent time writing the ending to the following story starters:

Guided Reading Books

All guided reading books are due on Friday, May 20th. Please look around your house, under your child's bed, and anywhere else to make sure all books are returned!

Plays

This week students performed 1 of 2 plays to the class.

    That Goat Has Got to Go
    The Very Cranky Bear
It is so fun to see students using expression, dressing up as their character in the play, and acting out their parts. Plays are definitely a fun way to wrap up May.

Field Trip

  • If your child has not yet brought back their signed permission slip along with $20 for the Hemker Zoo field trip please do so ASAP.
  • Chaperones are also able to join us and ride the bus also. The admission cost for chaperones to the Hemker Zoo is $13 per person. If you will be joining us for the field trip please sign and return the chaperone permission slip along with $13 ASAP.

Jenga Donation

 I am still looking for a few more Jenga game donations. I came across a fun way to incorporate more addition facts into math by using the game Jenga. Thanks in advance for your donation if you are able to help!

Phonics

 In phonics your child worked with high-frequency words, your child worked with the prefixes dis and un, your child worked on building fluency by partner reading short passages, and your child worked on writing complete sentences using high-frequency words.
