Classroom Fund

  We are asking ALL families to send $10.00 to school by Oct. 3rd if able. Please make any checks payable to your child’s teacher. This money will aide in our journey of learning by funding many needed educational supplies throughout our academic school year. Spelling

Next weeks spelling focus is working with words that have open syllable patterns within them as in cry, go, she, etc.

Math

 Time this week in math was spent practicing addition facts using a variety of strategies such as making ten facts, turn around facts, doubles, doubles +1, etc. Continue to use flashcards, dice, a deck of cards, or play games at home to help your child continue to learn their addition facts fluently.

Phonics

In phonics this week your child worked with words that had a long vowel-consonant-silent e pattern within them as in cake, tape, and made.

Bus Safety

Time was spent this week talking about bus safety and the importance of being safe and respectful when near or on a bus.

Math

 In second grade we do flexible grouping for math. Ask your child who his/her math teacher is. Math rotations started on Thursday!

First Full Week of School

 The students and I have had a great first full week of school. We have been practicing routines, practicing classroom expectations, and getting to know one another. I know we are going to have a great year together! ONWARD we go!!

Stick and Stone

This week I read the story Stick and Stone to the class. We then did an activity to go along with the story. Ask your child how Stick and Stone tied into our word of the month focused around FRIENDSHIP!!

Important Things to Know

  •  If your child is not signed up for snack cart please be sure to send a daily or weekly snacks to school.
  • We will go to the library every Friday.
  • If you have not signed the paperwork and paid the fee for your child to have their own chromebook this year please do so as soon as possible. Your child will use a chromebook daily in second grade.
