Bookbags

 Guided reading bookbags are just starting to come home this week. Please make sure your child is reading and doing some type of math nightly. Don't forget to sign their yellow reading sheet each night as well!

Good Readers...

This week our class revisited some CAFE strategies to help students 

become even better readers such as:

  • Good readers use pictures, graphs, and charts to figure out unknown words.
  • Good readers reread.
  • Good readers look for known chunks within words.
  • Good readers make predictions before, during, and after reading a text.

Math

In math students are working on:

  • Place Value Patterns Within Numbers
  • Skip counting by 5, 10, 100, and 1,000
  • Comparing Numbers Using Place Value
  • Comparing Numbers Using a Number Line

Fall Celebration

 We will be having a Fall Celebration in our classroom on Monday, Oct. 31st. If students choose, they may bring a costume along to school to change into. Costumes are optional. Some students have asked about bringing a treat to school that day to share with the class. Students may bring treats to school to share with the class as long as the treats are store bought. We have 22 students in our classroom!

Warm Clothes

The weather changed quickly this week. Please make sure your child is bringing jackets, hats, and gloves to school.

Phonics

 In phonics your child worked with words that had the long o sound within them as in boat, show, and toe. We spent a lot of time focusing on the letter patterns oa, oe, and ow within words.

 

Math

In math students are working on:

  • Even and Odd Numbers
  • Finding the Total Number of Objects in Rows and Columns (Repeated Addition)
  • Solving Word Problems using Number Equations, Drawings, and Arrays

 Please check with your child and make sure they have either a pair of headphones or earbuds to keep at school. Thanks!

A Big Thank You

 I just wanted to send a big thank you out to all of you for your understanding, patience, and kind thoughts the past few weeks. My son Brockdan is home from the hospital and he is doing very well. He was excited to go back to school as was I to see all of the kiddos. They rocked it while I was gone and I couldn't be more proud of them! Here's to calmer days ahead!!

In math both classes have finished Topic 1 which focused on teaching students various addition and subtraction strategies up to 20. Continue to have your child practice his/her addition and subtraction facts all year long at home also.

This week your student was introduced to Spelling City using their chromebooks. This app has many fun games to help your child practice their weekly spelling words. Through Clever your child can access this app at home as well.

Wear Orange Every Friday in October

October is the month that we remember the importance of being KIND! The Rachel’s Challenge club would like to invite EVERYONE to wear something ORANGE to school every Friday! Let’s fill our school with kindness. ðŸ§¡
