Reading Skills

In reading this week your child also worked on analyzing story elements by focusing on:

  • Characters
  • Setting
  • Problem and Solution
  • What happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story?
  • The Main Idea

Guided Reading

This week in reading your child spent time summarizing stories rather than retelling them. Students were taught that when you retell a story you retell the story again using the author's words using as many details as possible. When summarizing students only tell the most important events in the story using their own words. When summarizing students must think about the BIG IDEA or what the story is mostly about. At home continue to have your child summarize what they are reading.
