January Reward Party

On Friday, Feb. 3rd your child may wear his/her pajamas and slippers to school for the day as our monthly reward for earning over 150 shamrocks as a class for being respectful, responsible, and safe all throughout the day.  To go along with P.J Day the students also voted to watch a movie in the afternoon.  I am so proud of each and everyone for working so hard daily at showing Irish Pride.

Things Needed

The air is indeed dry and lips are cracking.  Please send along to school with your child a tube of Chap Stick, Vaseline, or Carmex and maybe even a small bottle of lotion for your child to keep in his or her desk or locker.  An extra set of clothes to keep in your child's locker would be helpful as well.

Math

Use a clock at home and ask your child the following questions:
¨ What time is the clock showing right now?
¨ What time will it be 10 minutes from now?
¨ What time will it be in one hour?
¨ What time was it five minutes ago?
¨ What time will it be in 15 minutes?
¨ What time was it one hour ago?
¨ What time was it 30 minutes ago?

Valentine's Day

On Tuesday, February 14th I will allow some time in the afternoon for students to exchange valentines with one another.  If your child chooses to bring valentines to school, please make sure that he/she brings enough valentines for everyone in our class.  We currently have 20 students in our classroom and all candy/food brought to school must be store bought.

Guided Reading

In guided reading this week your child worked on identifying story elements within various texts.  Some story elements discussed this week were: characters, setting, problem, solution, and plot.

Informational Reports

This week in writing your child continued to learn more about what writing features can be included within an Informational Report such as a strong opening sentence which can often be a question, information written in a sequential way, and the use of maps, charts, and graphs.
