Tuesday - Creamy Chicken Alfredo
Wednesday - Beef Nachos
Thursday - Chicken Nuggets with Home Fries
Friday -  Corn Dog with Tator Tots



We will be offering chicken patties and the newton meal as the number 2 and 3 option next week until supplies run out. I will be sure to keep you posted on our inventory level if we run short on anything.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER


This will be my last newsletter of the year. A big thank you to all of you for your constant support and dedication to your child’s education. It has been an incredible year and I am very fortunate to have been able to help your child grow as a second grader. I hope everyone has a very safe, relaxing, and memorable summer!

Track & Field Day Reminders


¨If possible please have your child wear a blue shirt.
¨ Having your child wear layers would not be a bad idea either.
¨ Send a water bottle or two along with your child. FRIDAY IS GOING TO BE VERY, VERY HOT!!!!
¨ Please put sunscreen on your child before he/she leaves the house in the morning.
¨ Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds for lunch. You may bring in lunch if you like but students need to stay at school. At the end of the day you can check in with me, sign out your child at the checkout table, and then leave for the weekend. 


~ This is a fun day and I hope you can all come and watch!~

City Park Field Trip


Just a reminder that next Friday your child will be walking to the City Park. We will be eating lunch back at school so all your child will need to bring to the City Park is a water bottle. Please put sunscreen on your child the morning of the City Park as well.


Como Zoo Field Trip


Just a reminder that next Thursday your child will be going on a field trip to the Como Zoo. Please remember to send a lunch in a paper or plastic bag along with your child on this day and please do not send any money. Please also put sunscreen on your child the morning of the field trip as well. I am looking forward to an exciting field trip!



Guided Readng


In guided reading this week your child continued to work on the literacy skill of comparing and contrasting within various texts. Comparing is looking for similarities within a text and contrasting is looking for differences within a text.

Phonics


This week in phonics your child spent time working with the “Bossy R” within words as in ar, er, ir, or, and ur. Using these letter patterns your child made words, sorted words, and played a game all focusing around the above letter patterns.


Friday Lunch Menu

There will only be 1 lunch option this Friday. The menu for Friday will be:

Track & Field Day Colors

Please have your child(ren) wear the following colors on Friday if possible. It just helps different staff members keep grade levels apart.
Kg - purple
1st - yellow
2nd - blue
3rd - orange
4th - red
5th - green
6th - Tye Die

Math

The next few weeks students will be tested on their addition and subtraction facts. These scores will be sent onto third grade so practice, practice, practice as much as you can with your child at home.

Guided Reading


In guided reading your child continues to work on the literacy skill of comparing and contrasting by using various reading posters and through the use of various leveled texts. No more guided reading books from the bookroom will be sent home but please continue to have your child read every night books from your house.

Como Zoo Field Trip

If you have not yet signed and sent back your child's permission slip along with $8.00 for the Como Zoo please do so as soon as possible. The students really enjoy this day at the end of the school year!

Spelling


Week Of:
 May 21-End of the School Year
Your child will not have any more weekly spelling tests. For the remainder of the school year your child will be working on many different review spelling activities. 

Science

In science students are beginning to work with plants. Students will identify and learn about various plant parts, students will discuss what living things need in order to survive, and students will grow their own plant. Students will also begin learning about various weather tools.

Writing

In writing students have been working on finishing several different story starters such as:

Guided Reading

As we finish the school year, I will still continue guided reading groups up until the last week of school and students will work with a partner the last week of school to read 2 person plays. Currently in guided reading students are working on comparing and contrasting texts.

Math @ Home

Twenty Five
Place a deck of cards face down. The first player turns over a card. The next player turns over a card, adds it to the previous card and says the sum aloud. Play continues until someone has a card that adds up to a sum greater than 25. When that happens, the player will subtract rather than add. Play continues until someone gets a sum of exactly 25.

Next weeks spelling focus is working with base words that have the suffix ion added to the end of them as in suggestion, direction, decoration, etc.


Guided Reading and Library Books

  • All guided reading books are due back to school on Monday, May 14th. Please start looking around your house for any books that may need to be returned.
  • All library books are due back to the library no later than Thursday, May 24th. 

Math @ Home

A shape is symmetrical when two halves of it are exactly alike. For example, a heart and a butterfly are symmetrical because, when folded in half, their left sides mirror their right sides. Have your child cut out different magazine pictures that are symmetrical. Then have your child cut along the line of symmetry. Next have your child paste one half of the picture on paper and then have your child draw the missing half.
