Battle of Books
Second graders are working hard with their Battle of Books partner. Please encourage your child to spend time reading some of their Battle of Books at home as well so your child is able to get through all of the chapter books before the battle in late January early February. Encourage your child to take notes using the yellow graphic organizer that was handed out to them. This will help your child remember those tough comprehension questions that may be asked. Happy READING!
The Change in Seasons
The chilliness has arrived in the air. Your child should come to school every day with a warm coat, snowpants, boots, a hat, and gloves.

Due to the craziness of this school year students are not allowed to bring any candy to school to pass out but we will make it fun in other ways!
Good Readers...
This week during Daily Five our class revisited some CAFE strategies to help students become even better readers such as:
- Good readers use pictures, graphs, and charts to figure out unknown words.
- Good readers reread.
- Good readers look for known chunks within words.
- Good readers make predictions before, during, and after reading a text.

Guided Reading
This week your child continued to practice his/her STAMINA as he/she practiced rotating through all of the Daily Fives. We are just starting to get into the routine of Guided Reading bookbags. In your child's bookbag there will always be 5 books. For now please choose 1 book to read each night. Your child is encouraged to reread the books in their bookbag to work on reading fluency. Every night that your child reads please write down the book title and sign the yellow reading sheet in their bookbag. Please also make sure your child is practicing his/her math skills at least 4 times a week and initial that on the bottom of your child's yellow reading log sheet. Bookbags should be coming home every night and brought back to school daily!
Phonics
In phonics this week your child worked with words that had the long o sound within them as in boat, show, and toe. We spent a lot of time focusing on the letter patterns oa, oe, and ow within words.
